Live Auction Bidding Options

You may choose any of the following options for bidding in our live domain auctions. Bidding registration for each option is available on each auction detail page. Access and view the current auctions on the Auction Calendar.

  • Register as an on-site live bidder

If you are attending the conference in person, you are also qualified to attend the Live Domain Auction at no additional charge. Pre-register to bid in person and your paddle and auction materials will be waiting for you at the auction door. There will also be on-site registration at the event. (Note: Registering as a bidder in the live auction does not take the place of registering for the conference. You will still have to register directly with the event organizers for access to the conference.)

  • Bid online with SnapNames Live technology

If you cannot attend the event in person or prefer to bid online at the event, you can participate in all the bidding action live as it happens by using the SnapNames Live auction bidding platform. You will need to download our auction software and open a SnapNames account to use this interface. We strongly suggest you prepare in advance and download the SnapNames Live platform at least a few days before the auctions starts.

  • Bid via telephone using a proxy bidder in the auction room

Even if you can't be on site or near your computer, we can still make sure you get access to bid on important domains for your portfolio via telephone bidding. Using this method, a designated proxy bidder will be assigned to the domain lots you're interested in. You determine live on the phone if and at what level you will bid. (Note: Due to the coordination required, telephone proxy bidding MUST be requested at least 24 hours in advance.)

  • Leave an absentee bid with the Auctioneer

With an absentee bid, you provide the auctioneer with a list of the lots you're interested in and your maximum price for each. The auctioneer then bids on your behalf, using commonly accepted increments, up to your maximum bid.

Getting Ready for the Live Auction

To prepare for your participation in the live auction, download the auction catalog, which features over a dozen stats on the domains up for auction. Conduct your own due diligence and determine which domains you are most interested in bidding on.

You can expect a preliminary catalog and other updates to start showing up on the Moniker Live Auction site approximately 20-30 days prior to the event. The final catalog of Live and/or Extended Online Auction domains is generally available the week prior to the event. Any last-minute changes to the Live Domain Auction inventory will be announced prior to the start of the Live Auction proceedings.

Register to bid one of four ways: in-person, online, telephone proxy, or absentee bidding. If you plan to bid in-person, you will also need to register for the conference where the auction is being held. (See above for details on how to bid.)

Closing the transaction on purchased domains

If a domain is successfully won at auction, Moniker will work with the winning bidder to complete the sale and receive funds into escrow as soon as possible. This process typically takes 20-30 business days to complete, but could take longer if the domain is not already at Moniker, or if the winning bidder lives outside the United States. Both Buyers and Sellers must agree and abide by the Marketplace User Agreement.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To expedite the transfer process, Moniker asks that sellers be prepared to unlock all domains sold and provide EPP and/or other Authorization Codes immediately following the auction closing, where they will be held safely (without DNS change) in a separate Escrow account at Moniker, until the funds arrive in escrow.

Sellers can request Moniker to process payments via check, bank wire, PayPal, or by placing funds in the seller's Moniker account. Certain payment methods may require a small surcharge. Moniker will use best efforts to complete funds transfer within 3 business days of ownership change.

Funds for domain purchases are generally due to escrow by close of business within 10 business days of the final auction event. Funds can be paid by bank wire, personal check, cashier & certified check, PayPal (for purchases under $10,000.00 only).

Buying Domains in Extended Online Auctions

What are Extended Online Auctions?

Moniker produces its successful Extended Online Auctions using an online auction platform for bidding. Inventory includes some of the best domain values on the market, and may have several hundred to several thousand domains listed, depending on the size of the event and auction theme. Additionally, domains that are not sold in the Live Auction will typically be included for sale in the Extended Online Auction.

Generally speaking, Moniker's Extended Online Auctions open on the first day of the hosting event, and run for approximately one week. Please refer to the specific auction details for each event for complete details.

Extended Online Auction Bidding

The Extended Online Auction allows visitors to place bids on any unsold domain inventory in that auction. The auction system opens all at one time, but the closing schedule will be staggered so that bidders can more easily follow key inventory and place last-minute bids if needed. In addition, these features are also available:

  • Watch Lists – Select any of the domain inventory to receive e-mail alerts when bidding activity occurs.
  • Auto-bid Setting – Set up a "Max Bid" to automatically out-bid other buyers in pre-set increments up to a level you determine ahead of time. Many bidders overlook this valuable bidding options, which virtually eliminates the possibility of being sniped (outbid by a small increment) at the end of the auction.
  • Advanced Search Capabilities – Sort by a number of factors including extension, keyword, price or whether items (domains) have a current bid.
